Civil War Board Game

When teaching about the Civil War, I added a gaming aspect which I thought might resonate with a few particular students.

The game board was based on a blank, outline map of the United States just prior to the Civil War (available from edHelper). I free-handed this map onto large piece of posterboard. Union States were then outlined in Blue and Confederate States were outlined in red.

I created a box for Washington, D.C. and Richmond, VA and drew a line from the box to the location of that city on the map. This made it possible to move armies in and out of those cities.

Along the top of the board, I added a strip for keeping track of the turns. Each turn was supposed to correspond to six months.
